Review of Quality Seafood:
There was a time when I was going to take it upon
myself to spearhead a campaign for the beef council. It was going to
be me and James Garner combating fish and poultry in a quest to enlighten
America as to what was the most delectable of all meats. But then Mr.
Garner had that massice stroke, so I decided to take my favoritism and
ever-incrreasing cholesterol level to a different source.
More truthfully, I found solace in seafood from a
restaurant I worked at in Maui, Leilani's and have since become a big
fan. One of the reinforcing reasons for my change of heart (pun intended
(is Quality Seafood, Redondo Beach's eldest and favorite son.
Quality Seafood has stood steadfast and true in Redondo
Beach's King Harbor for over 40 years. The simple source for its longevity
is the fulfillment of it mission statement as set forth by Pete Dragich,
Sr., founder: "Freshness and quality before anything else."
Sounds like a reasonable assessment, however, when
food costs continue to increase it cannot be immediately reflected onto
the customer or said customer choose to buy from someone up the street,
or pier for the matter. If the integrity of the seafood remains top
quality, then the clientele will be3 sure to fill the terrazzo seats
that surround the store.
After, you've found a table, take a walk through the
fish market where you can say hello to your lunch in the saltwater tanks,
or peruse the selections in the display cases. Then set your sights
on smilin'Seiji, he's the culinary craftsman who put the "Quality"
in your seafood lunch. After you've picked your lunch tell him how you'd
like it prepared, whether it be broiled, baked, basted, boiled, fried,
poached, whatever.
I had Colossal Shrimp Scampi with new potatoes and
peppers. It came on a plate of immense significance. Janine and Di had
barbecued Teriyaki swordfish, broiled Giant Sea Scallops and seared
Ahi, respectively. By the looks on their faces and the total lack of
conversation for the full 15 minutes we were eating, I could invariably
say they were intoxicated by the fine food.
By no means are you limited to the few selections
I've mentioned. Quality Seafood is equipped with an on-sight smoker,
they make phenomenal Poki, and they're in cahoots with the Pioneer Bread
Company, so you know the sour dough is first rate. The soup in thick
as chowder and the service makes for fun.
Take the whole family to Quality Seafood on the lower
level of Redondo Beach's King Harbor or call them at (310) 374-2382
